A new ‘Taymouth Community Market’ sign was up on the market fence when we arrived this morning. Thank you to Mike Campbell at Ink Monkey’s for the logo design and to Andrew O’Hara at First Impressions Graphics & Output for the sign design, printing and mounting. They both are fine local business professionals who did an awesome job. The sign is part of our Canada 150 and marking our Taymouth Market’s 15th season.
Canada flags were hung around the big market tent, bubbles were floating on the breeze, music was playing in the back ground and hopscotch and other designs were drawn on the pavement with huge sticks of chalk. Under the market tent you could participate in the mini cupcake walk, enter the ‘Have a ball at the Duck Race’ tickets, guess the number of candy in a big jar and enter a name for the Rooster stuffy. Macey drew her own name so lovingly gave it to her little niece Josie who named him ‘Rooster the Cluck’. Good job Josie! Five year old Kara Campbell guessed the number of the candy in the jar and won the whole jar. What a happy little camper she was. There was also a treasure hunt game where you searched for certain objects in a see through bag of sand and wrote them down. All of these fun games were organized by Ruth and Macey Doiron and were all free for anyone who wanted to play. Thank you to you both. Check our Facebook TCA page for details on all the winners. On the other side of the market tent our ticket table was a busy place where you could enter your name for a free $5.00 market voucher. Pam Moxon was the lucky patron. Congratulations Pam. You could also purchase our weekly raffle ballots (3 for $1.00) for a chance to win gift package donated by Stuart and June Douglass that included a bread board, wooden spoon and a bottle of Stuart’s maple syrup. Bobby Canney who is visiting from Ontario was the lucky winner. Congratulations Bobby. Jim Campbell baked and donated a lovely chocolate celebration cake. Rhona O’Hara gave a short talk and pin pointed several reasons for our July 29th celebrations. After, everyone enjoyed a slice of yummy cake. We had a total of 14 vendors who appreciated so much the wonderful turnout of family, neighbours and friends. Welcome to new vendor Bud Price who had a wonderful display of wooden crafts and sport signs. Wendy and Jonathan Hunter were so gracious about donating their time today to sing and entertain us. Blair Kuhn has posted an awesome video on Facebook of them singing ‘Can’t You See’; a song by The Marshall Tucker Band. Check it out. Thank you to a talented great couple from the Taymouth Community Market. The Market Lotto was sold out and the lucky number drawn by Katherine Bavis. The happy, happy winner of $100.00 was local resident Margaret Somerville. She was thrilled and said she’d probably spend it at our markets. Thanks for your continued support Margaret. Later in the morning TCA Treasurer Blair Kuhn presented Durham resident Jesse Canney with a commemorative plaque from the Taymouth Community Association and on behalf of the community of Taymouth. Jesse is an accomplished athlete with many medals and just as many broken records in the sport of swimming. Jesse will compete on the NB Swim team in Manitoba for the Canada Summer Games. Congratulations and good luck Jesse. At markets end many of us gathered on the other side of the parking lot where two red maple trees were planted. Thank you to Tom Moss for picking those up and planting them for us. Craig Hickey talked about the many years of dedication by the vendors and the volunteers. He thanks co-chairs (Market Managers) Rhona O’Hara, Barb Flinn and Connie Campbell for all your hard work organizing the market and keeping us going all these years. Thank you also goes to a former co-chair Jean Burgess. We are excited to watch these two red maple trees grow and provide us with beauty in the spring, summer and fall and we promise to protect you during those harsh winter months. Sounds like a good deal. Many turned out to watch the colourful balls race down the river. Thank you to Amy Hickey and her crew for gathering them up to determine the winners and to chase them down the river to round them all up. Prizes are announced on the TCA Facebook page. Thanks to Ruth and Macey Doiron for organizing a fun race. The chicken barbecue supper was well attended. The star of the show chicken was delicious and all the salads that were donated were yummy. Strawberry short cake was the dessert along with leftover chocolate cake and mini cupcakes from market. Several family’s got a take out dinner and ate outside at our TCA picnic tables; a great evening for eating outside. Thank you to Ruth Doiron, Anne Canney, Marie Morehouse, Amy Hickey and all the Stewart and Evan’s barbecue crew and all the helpers. It was a really great supper! Unfortunately the fireworks that were planned for dusk had to be cancelled because of the fire burn ban in the province. We will reschedule these at a later date. Stay tuned. Everyone was hoping for good weather and Saturday did not disappoint! This was actually our first market this year which had been outdoors.
Most vendors had been very sensible and had gazebos up for shelter. Some, like me, were not so sensible and ended up completely frazzled. Not about to complain though, we need these hot summer days to get us through the winter! The coffee was good and as usual the breakfast sandwiches looked and tasted divine! Why is it that food always smells and tastes better outdoors? We had a wonderful array of baking on sale which didn't seem to sit there long before being whisked off for someone's lunch or tea-time treat! The flowers and plants on sale looked most at home in the sunshine and there were some pots of fresh herbs which smelt divine! You just can't beat the flavour of fresh herbs for soups and stews, can you? My daughter, Mia, bought a liquorice lip balm from 'Honest to Goodness'. She loves it, it smells so good and has a lovely silky feel when used! She also sat on a wonderful hand crafted bench which was made by Stuart Douglass. Would you believe the bench is just $50!! What a great price and perfect addition to a corner of the garden! Take a look at the photo. It was great to see so many smiling faces and people just sitting around and enjoying the atmosphere and music. This is what it is all about, people having a good time! Ruth Doiron was selling Duck Race tickets and there were some great prizes to be had. The music this week was provided by Charlene and Sam Johnston. It was loved by all! Two of our summer students, Kayla Kuin and Riley O'Hara, worked really hard behind the scenes making sure everyone had chairs and putting away tables in addition to lots of other jobs! Fantastic helpers indeed! Of course, the wonderful breakfast ladies, Evelyn, Ene and Tricia and all the other volunteers who help at each market deserve a huge thanks. The market prize of a $25 Tim Hortons giftcard and a packet of sparklers, very kindly donated by Connie and Jim Campbell, was won by Amey Hickey. The $5 market dollars was won by Joan Greene! Congratulations Ladies! So, don't forget the next market! July 29th, make sure you put it in your diaries! This is a special celebration as the Taymouth Community Association will be celebrating fifteen wonderful years! Okay, so who ordered the rain?? Although the weather was not quite what we had hoped for spirits were high at the market on Saturday! We were delighted to welcome Jonathan and Wendy Hunter from Durham and Robert Griffiths from Fredericton who provided some awesome music. They sang and played some wonderful songs and there was lots of toe tapping going on! There were even a couple of brave ladies dancing at the front! If you haven't already seen it check out the short video on our Facebook page. We want to send a huge thank you to the musicians and hope you will join us again! We also had another visitor on Saturday. T.J.Harvey, our MP for Tobique Mactaquac, took to the stage and said a few words. We would like to thank him for his support and taking time to visit us! Jim Campbell was back again this week with his delicious cakes and pies. Although I didn’t sample his lemon cheesecake I heard it was delicious. He also had some yummy Father's Day cakes available. What Dad wouldn’t love to receive one of those? Sharon Green from Green's Greenhouse had some stunning hanging baskets and plants. Just perfect for brightening up the garden! This weather also brings some unwelcome visitors but Connie was selling the highly effective Watkin's bug spray so there is no need for any nasty bites! This comes in formulations for adults and children! Amy had some wonderful hand painted trays on her table, just perfect for serving drinks on the deck! How about some of her homemade doughnuts? One of our newer vendors, Wendy, from Honest to Goodness Bath and Body was selling a wide array of soaps, lotions and potions and everything is completely natural! It smelt absolutely lovely at her table! Barb, who I think should be the market mascot as she always smiles so beautifully for the camera, had some tasty looking bread, cakes and preserves. June and Stuart Douglass had their usual table with a selection of beautiful wood turned products. If you have never tasted their home made maple syrup why not give it a try! You will never go back to store bought again! Suellen had a large selection of super-soft, colourful fleeces, perfect for those cooler summer evenings or even using as a picnic blanket! She had also made some really pretty citronella candles for keeping those pesky little bugs away! Sandra English from Nana's Pantry had some delicious looking treats. Doughnuts, cookies, squares, and much, much more! Perfect for picnics and afternoon tea! Rhona was selling some great throw pillows. Ideal for home or garden! Who hasn’t got one of those garden chairs that needs to be made a little more comfortable! Lee Isaacson was selling DVD's. What a great idea to have a few of these handy for a rainy afternoon, especially now the kids have finished school for the summer! Mia had some extra large bath bombs! All naturally coloured and perfumed with essential oils. No one wants a bath full of nasty chemicals! In addition to my usual jewelry line I have started selling my hand stamped items which can be personalized and made to order! Necklaces, keychains, etc. etc. Perfect for special occasions! Everyone loves that Swarovski sparkle! We cannot forget our wonderful ladies in the canteen who were once again busy making our signature breakfast sandwich! Absolutely delicious and only $3. Of course, the coffee to go with it is always free! Congratulations to our prize winners! Flora Hunter won the raffle which was a BBQ treat selection donated by Barb. Ethel Wall won the market dollars! Thank you to Utah Banks for her tireless efforts at every market with the raffle table! It is very much appreciated! Thank you to Kayla for all her hard work on Saturday! Kayla is one of our summer students and she worked hard to make sure everyone had tables and chairs and all the general 'behind the scenes' chores that people don’t always see! Thank you to all those who attended! Visitors and vendors, we couldn’t do it without you! Community is what makes this market a success! To all those who may be reading this who haven't yet visited, we would love to see you at our next market! The dates are on our Facebook page and website! One more, thank you, from me, for reading this blog! This is my first attempt ever at blogging and I was a little worried that I would not find much to say, now I am worried that I have said too much! Ha Ha I would love to read any comments or suggestions. Is there anything that I haven't mentioned that you would like to see? This is a community page, written for the community, so lets all contribute and make this page great!! |
