Fresh eggs anyone? A new market vendor has joined us this week with a table full of fresh eggs. Sherman Stone from Tay Creek says he'll be back next market with more. There's nothing better than a farm fresh scrambled eggs.
But if we're talking about dessert then we have to mention Rhona O'Hara's strawberry short cake made with local berries and homemade biscuits and sweet whipped cream.....or maybe Melissa Fraser's dark gluten free chocolate cupcakes along with her strawberry, chocolate or vanilla flavoured almond milk. Mmmmmmm!! Then, across the market court we are looking straight into the depths of a deep dark chocolate cream pie, but once you get past all the real whipped cream on top. What I'm trying to say here is that there is no shortage of deliciousness and tasty treats at our market. Tracy Hunter's 'Tangled Thai Salad' sold out in no time. Speaking of Tracy Hunter, she makes the best healthy fruit smoothies. What a great way to start off your morning. Then around the corner Diane Sullivan is set up with her Organo Gold coffee products. I tried her Cranberry green tea lemonade this time and its very refreshing. Stuart Douglass stumbled onto a game of Ladder Golf (otherwise known as Ladder ball or Ladder toss) about 15 years ago. It has resurfaced in the area and has become quite popular so Stuart created a Ladder Golf game from scratch. Now, this game that Stuart made is for the serious Ladder Golf gamer and is a great investment for outdoor activities during the summer and fall. It was a great day for the vendors with lots of folks dropping by. A few vendors were sold out before end of market. A BIG, HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to one of our very own vendors, SHARON GORMAN who won our first $100.00 MARKET LOTTO'S of this market season. Fred Mesman drew number 62 which was Sharon's number. We won't mention why she chose that number!! wink wink!! We are all so happy for you Sharon. Next market we'll have a new Market Lotto board ready to go and maybe YOU will be the next lucky winner. The weekly raffle prize was one of Ene Vähi's prize geraniums. Thank you Ene. It was won by Judy Gallie. Jocelyn Weston won the 50/50 and had $8.00 in her pocket. Marion Grant went home with the free $5.00 market voucher. Congratulations to all our winners today. Thank you to everyone who helps out but specifically Cindy Somerville and Ethel Wall who helped sell raffle and 50/50 tickets at our TCA ticket table. Those 'Folks on Spokes' are a fit bunch of people who bike all the way out from Fredericton via Route 148 on Saturday mornings to attend our market. They are a group of seniors in bright yellow biking gear so if you see them on your travels, give them some space and a slight honk to say hello. Our next market is August 8th from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. Right after market at 1:00 our annual TCA FUN DAY starts with games and fun for all ages. Bring the kids and the grandparents and join in the fun. A CHICKEN BBQ will take place at supper time and FIRE WORKS at 10:00 ish (whenever its dark enough). Last year awesome. Market this week was a new experience for both of our summer students. Although Steven Ross has been a market vendor along with his Mom, Suellen Ross for about ten years, this week he was sitting on the other side of the market court and cooking hotdogs at the TCA canteen. Steven has, as well, always been a great help in the mornings when setting up but this time he was responsible to do it all along with our other summer student Cam Kuhn.
For his very first market experience ever, it only took Cam a short time to feel right at home among the market vendors as everyone was working to get their tables and tents set up before market started at 9:00. Cam is an artist so it didn’t take him long to get his sketch book out and create a sketch of the entertainers after they arrived mid morning. Cam and Steven lugged tables outside for sixteen vendors plus tables for the canteen, coffee and tea, ticket table and for the entertainers. The tables all required a couple of chairs each. They also carried two of our new picnic tables over and set them under one of our two big market tents that they lugged out and set up earlier. Market signs were erected in front of the building and near the intersection at Zionville Road. The guys also set up the barbecue and propane tank and got the hotdogs and buns ready with all the condiments. They filled the cooler with ice and filled it with pop to sell. Next it was lugging the heavy coffee and tea urns out to the coffee table after they’d set up the extension cords for them. There were many other tasks that were asked of them throughout the morning and they did not hesitate to help out. We sure did appreciate them being there especially at end of market when everything had to be taken down and put away. Thank you to Steven and Cam for a job well done. This week we welcomed two new vendors to our market. Jocelyn Weston, who grew up in Stanley, brews up the most delicious mushroom tea called Chaga. This type of mushroom grows almost exclusively on birch trees. It’s rich in vitamins and antioxidants and is quite delicious brewed as a tea, served hot or cold. Jocelyn handed out free samples to all who inquired and sold her brewed tea in bottles. She also sells the ground chaga mushroom in bags to brew your self at home. Our other new vendor is Melissa Fraser from Nashwaak Bridge. Melissa makes her own almond milk in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavours. We’re all into strawberry mode this time of year so that flavour sold out first. Almond milk is one of the most nutritionally valuable milk substitutes available today. It is low in calories, low in fat, is lactose, gluten, casein and cholesterol free and free of saturated fats. Melissa also had a delicious, moist and yummy gluten free chocolate cake served with an almond milk glaze and fresh strawberries. Most of our regular vendors were in attendance selling a good variety of baking, knitting, tole painting, sewing, stained glass, wood working, pickles, jams and jellies. Rhona O’Hara had a delicious lunch of taco salad, bun and yummy square for $5.00; which I can add that it was all delicious. Thank you to Sam and Charlene Johnston from Durham Bridge for entertaining us for two full hours. The songs were familiar and soothing and sung from the heart. We sure loved having you join us. Congratulations to the lucky winners at today’s market. Joann Michelin won both the weekly raffle and the $5.00 market voucher. It was her ‘lucky’ day!! Thank you to Carol Benedict for providing the cute crocheted summer hat and the bottle of Sunscreen. Along with these two items was a bag of Chaga tea powder provided by Jocelyn Weston. Thanks Jocelyn and congratulations to Joann. The weekly 50/50 was won by Jim Campbell who went home with an extra $7.00. Congrats Jim!! We need to thank a few more people. Tara Savage was our ‘Ticket Table’ sales lady for the day! You did a great job Tara and we sure appreciate you sharing your morning with us and helping us out. Thank you to Jim Campbell for giving all our market signs 3 coats of paint on both sides and to both Jim and Connie for creating the stencils and then painting all the lettering on in black. Cam Kuhn will give the lettering an additional coat in time for the next market which is on July 25th. Hope to see you all then! |
