We have already posted 3 of these poems and here are 2 more. Rev Yvette Swan was influenced by the light-hearted, and comical moments in the workshop and wrote a poem gently poking fun at herself as a market patron. Jean Burgess was influenced by the reflective aspects of the workshop and wrote a poem reflecting on the Taymouth market and how it echoes past community activities and get-togethers . THE MARKET by Yvette Swan We walk down aisle after aisle We note what goods we see. LOOK!! OVER THERE! It’s a walking cane? I guess we will need one soon. Especially if we keep directing our focus on the cakes OH!! CAKES, PIES. Our Health, our Waist. Must turn away. Focus, Focus Photo caption: Yvette beside Stuart Douglass' sturdy walking sticks WHAT ARE WE MARKETING HERE? by Jean Burgess Pies, cakes, rolls and brown bread, the harvest and holiday foods of our fore-bearers. Potatoes, turnips, carrots and onions; Vegetables that every family used to plant. A place to see your neighbors, who you no longer run into at the local grocery stores, post office, school concert. A building that has room for your creative ideas - Art gallery, scrap booking workshop, book exchange, sTayfit Centre . . . Our own park, green space, ball field, the only commons from here to town. A civic centre where we can hear from our leaders and each other - Put word to what feels natural and right, what we have learned from our land, our rivers, our seasons, our parents and theirs. A SKUNK TALE by Evelyn Frank My husband and I are new to Taymouth having moved here to get away from city living and to follow our daughter and her family. We live in a quiet subdivision where everyone is friendly and helpful. I was however surprised to hear my doorbell ring early one morning. I answered the door to have my neighbor tell me there was a Skunk wandering across the street with a Pepsi Can stuck on his head. I have a dog and he was worried the dog would chase the Skunk and get sprayed. I quickly got dressed and sure enough you could hear the Clink Clink of the can hitting the road as the poor Skunk walked blindly around in circles. I wasn't sure what to do but when the Skunk came in my yard I took action (and a few pictures). I called the SPCA, Animal Control, Dept of Natural Resources for Doaktown and Fredericton. None of them dealt with small wildlife but there were a few chuckles when they heard the dilemma. By this time the Skunk had been trapped too long. There was no one around to help so I flagged down a passing car. Joshua LeBlanc from Hayward Solutions was on his way to give a quote for a New Heat Pump in our area. He was surprised to see me and shocked when he saw the poor Skunk. He quickly went into action and tried to grab the can and yank it off without getting sprayed. The can was on too tight and poor Joshua was covered in sweat. At one point Joshua had the Skunk hanging off the ground slowly rocking the can and the Skunk was helping with his claws . . . quite a sight! Finally, the can came off and the Skunk went prancing off into the woods!! Thanks to Joshua LeBlanc! A job well done!!
