RUTH DOIRONTaymouth Community Association
Burgess Volunteerism Award recipient April 10, 2013 Sandra_Today we honour a person who has been quietly making a valued contribution to her community for many years now. She is a volunteer who can be counted on to take on a task and do it well - no complaints, ever. She gets on well with everyone; I think her good nature is contagious. Her head is full of creative ideas that have entertained children and adults as well, through her organizing of activities at Markets, Day Camps and Winter Carnivals. Beneath the calm exterior lies the gem of her writing skills. Her words are entertaining and from the heart. She personifies positive attitude. The community is a better place for having her. Rhona_ Ruth is a quiet mannered soft spoken lady with many great ideas tucked away in her head. She writes plays, poems and songs which carry positive messages for the younger generation. She has a great rapport with young people which was shown when she organized the various activities at market for children to participate in. She has been an integral part of the organizing team for the winter carnival events. She was one of the first workers hired by the TCA in the Workability program and was an excellent worker, going above and beyond what was required of her. Sarah_ when I think of Ruth, these are the traits that come to mind and that I love about her! Ruth has a very caring and patient nature. She is extremely creative in a way that draws in people of all ages. As someone who has worked with her on a few events in the past, I have seen how her inspiring ideas and ambition have always created a fun, high spirited and safe environment. As a parent of children attending Nashwaak Valley where Ruth is librarian, I have noticed how her clever and original ideas in the library have made it a great setting for enthusiastic learners Joele_As a parent I don't think I've exchanged more than 50 words with Ruth in the few years I've known her, but she is often there in the background working her magic. Peter_Ruth doesn't need to say a lot to get things doneJ Ene_Ruth is quietly positive, determined, and creative. Whenever she is asked to help she almost always says yes, and always with a SMILE! Connie_Behind Ruth’s quiet and shy demeanour is a woman bursting with enthusiasm and creativity. Ever since Ruth worked for the TCA, through the Workability program, we have witnessed her many skills of creating and organizing events emerge; over the years she has easily settled into a “go to” person role. Along with being involved every summer with the TCA Day Camp, she has assisted with our TCA breakfasts - by calling around for prices and ordering the food. From working in the kitchen at these breakfasts she has gained a tremendous amount of experience, and has become one who we can rely on to supervise in the kitchen at other food events. She has set up games for the young children at many of our markets, and has organized activities for our June Summerfest events. She has assisted in organizing the annual Winter Carnivals each year until this year when she was the organizer herself. She has become part of the TCA and it would not be the same without her. She is creative in many ways but her passion as a writer is prominent. As a student of the UNB Writers Workshop, she developed her writing skills with short stories, plays, skits, songs and poems. Since her Workability term with the TCA she has found employment with the Nashwaak Valley School. She has written and produced many plays and programs performed there, where her daughter Macey was a student. She is also a member of the Taymouth Writers Guild. Another of Ruth’s passion is her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Since her daughter Macey is now in middle school, Ruth is looking ahead to what the community can offer for Macey’s age group. She has created a new Teen Club (I believe the first ever in Taymouth), and they held their first event last weekend with a Teen Movie Night. You never know what Ruth is thinking about next, but I am always in awe of her ideas and admire her strength and her dedication to her family and the community. Jean_ Ruth is a visionary. She understands the importance of family and community and so is willing to work in a hundred small, quiet ways to contribute |
